    • Statistics Iceland has just released new population figures, reports. The population of Iceland at the end of the first quarter of was , - , males and , females. The population increased by 1, from the previous quarter, or by percent. The population of the capital region was ,, while , lived outside it.

    A total of 1, children were born during the first quarter, and persons died. Net migration was persons. Net migration of persons with an Icelandic citizenship was , and for foreign citizens. More males than females emigrated.

    Norway was the most popular destination for Icelandic citizens. Sixty persons emigrated there during the quarter. Of the Icelandic citizens who emigrated, went to Denmark, Norway or Sweden. Among the foreign citizens who emigrated, the largest group, or , went to Poland.

    Immigrants of Icelandic citizenship came mostly from Denmark (), Norway (50) or Sweden (70) – a total of out of persons, while Poland was the country of origin for most of the foreign immigrants, or for out of 1, of them. Lithuania ranked second with immigrants.

    Befolkningen på Island har sedan bosättningstiden troligen fluktuerat mellan cirka 30 och 80 invånare. Officiell befolkningsstatistik finns från och med år , då antalet invånare uppgick till 50 [6] Motsvarande siffra år var

    Under talet ökade inflyttningen, främst från europeiska länder.

    Bland de största migrantgrupperna märks polacker, med över 20 personer, vilket gör dem till den enskilt största minoriteten i landet.[7] Därefter följer personer födda i Danmark, Litauen, USA och Sverige.
